The Rand Gold price increased by 28% in 2007, and yet the JSE Gold index declined by 21%. In contrast, the Platinum price and Platinum index both increased by 31% during the year.
We think the weak performance of gold shares is anomalous. We have increased your portfolio's exposure to gold shares, to be approximately equal to the exposure to platinum shares.
